I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you on that last remark, my friend...

The food, sure, is vastly superior at Scott Base considering they're only cooking for 50 kiwis instead of 1000+ white bread Americans who complain that Mexican day is too exotic, but I digress...

The Scott Base bar (the nameless, brightly lit, white-walled and pink carpeted room adjoining their cafeteria) is about the most awkward and soulless bar I've ever been in. And same for the parties. They always seem to have this desparate quality to them. Maybe that's just me and my own personal loathing of theme parties (Disco, Men in skirts, The 80's! how could this ever get old?!) but I'm pretty sure I've seen plenty of other bored-looking people checking their watches in the black light.

What I'm saying is this: I'd take a bad night at Southern Exposure over any night at Scott Base. Even if my clothes do smell like a cancerous lung the next morning.
