I get excited about a good phone app…and by the phrase “good phone app,” I mean one that can be used effectively even when you don’t have any cell service. When you’re in the outdoors, you know how annoying it is when you need to access important information on your phone, and you’re able to view a part of the screen for about two seconds…and then it starts flaking out because you’ve lost your signal.
Well…to avoid that annoying situation when you’re accessing maps–essential to your outdoor safety–check out the MotionX-GPS app for iPhone and iPad. It will allow you to download topographic maps in advance of your journey, and you can access them even when you don’t have service. The MotionX-GPS app also has a lot of other helpful features such as journey tracking and a compass.
